GE MONEY TRANSFORMATION TASK FORCE BRINGS COMMUNITY SPIRIT BACK TO THE TURNER MEMORIAL HALL.

The Turner Memorial Hall at St Wilfrid’s Church in Halton, Leeds, received a long overdue make over by volunteers from GE Money’s Leeds call centre.

At the heart of the community for 25 years, the Turner Memorial Hall had slipped into a sorry state of disrepair. However, that was until a 25-strong team from GE Money’s Customer Solutions and Business Planning and Performance department redecorated it from floor to ceiling!

Volunteers transformed different areas, including, digging out the overgrown garden, replacing it with a landscaped patio, fitting a new carpet, re-painting the windows, walls, roof and even the chairs saw a lick of new paint! No part of the hall was left untouched by the time the team had finished.

The transformation task force took two days, turning this popular local facility from a run-down ‘hut’ to a bright, clean community hall. The volunteers also received valuable support from ASDA, who donated a £100 , to keep ‘workers’ fed and watered.

Project Manager, Sharon Broughton, GE Money, said; “The project was a huge undertaking, and at times fairly hectic, but seeing the end result makes it worthwhile We look forward to doing more of the same to help the local community.

Revd Mark Heather BA LLB, Vicar of Halton, said, “On behalf of the Parochial Church Council and 3rd St Wilfrid’s (Leeds Templars) Scouts, I would like to express our thanks to all the staff at GE Money who worked so hard to transform our scout hut. We are grateful for all the hard work and generosity of GE Money in providing finance and staff to make this transformation possible”.

Jacqueline Gray and Steve Mason who run the local scout group, said; “It was fantastic not having to walk into a dirty, smelly place. Seeing the children’s faces said it all, especially seeing the younger ones rolling on the new carpet and commenting on how much space there was to play. A huge thank you to the GE Money team for the magnificent work in making this 1980s scout hut a safer and cleaner place to enjoy.”
